So now you know there are two great ways to start calling the U.S. from the Czech Republic:Vonage Mobile AND Vonage World. It’s time to scratch one more thingyou’re your travel to-do list – namely making sure you have access to affordable communication.   With that out of the way, how about if we help you “Czech” off some more need-to-knows about your new home abroad? There’s plenty we can share with you. But since your time is limited, we’ll just focus on a few quick highlights:

No to the Euro. Though a part of the European Union, the Czech Republic has so far refused to adopt the Euro as their currency. This can be a real boon for students on a budget since the official currency, the Czech koruna, has an exceedingly favorable exchange rate for U.S. residents traveling to the Czech Republic. At this time, 1 koruna equals roughly 5 U.S. cents.

Staging ground. The Czech Republic and Prague will occupy plenty of your time as you explore this ancient and amazing land.  But Prague, in particular, is situated in a strategically central location for visiting the rest of Europe. Rail passes are highly affordable, and it would be a real shame if you didn’t take advantage of the ease of travel. The first time you call the U.S. from the Czech Republic will be one of the best chats you’ll ever have because sharing adventures make for great conversation.

Local travel.  To ride public transportation (buses, trolleys, the metro or subway) in Prague, you’ll need a stamped ticket, which you purchase before boarding.  Funny thing is that  no one checks your ticket as you board. Sounds very trusting, right? Well, a little. There are plenty of plainclothes cops who randomly check passengers’ passes, and anyone speaking English is almost always asked to show their stamped ticket. And for taxi lovers, the best cabs come from the AAA cab group. They’re safe and generally don’t overcharge.

That’s it. The rest is up to you now. We hope you have a wonderful trip to this wonderful country, and now that you know how to call the U.S. from the Czech Republic with Vonage World and Vonage Mobile, we hope some of your concerns have been put to rest.
