The only city in South Korea that’s still completely surrounded by walls, Suwon is only 30 miles from the capital city Seoul. As historically significant as the city is, Suwon is incredibly modern, as it’s the headquarters of Samsung Electronics. Samsung is the city’s largest employer and also sponsors the city’s football (soccer) team: the Suwon Samsung Bluewings.

The city’s largest tourist attraction is the Hwaseong Fortress, built in 1796. Suwon is also known for its galbi, a type of Korean short rib, for which the city has held an annual festival for since 1995.
