How to Call Hong Kong from the U.S.
Is calling Hong Kong driving you to distraction with unnecessarily difficult calling cards and tricky international rules?
Then take a moment to see our useful “How to Call Hong Kong” instructions below.
To call Hong Kong from the U.S., just follow these simple dialing directions:
- First dial 011, the U.S. exit code.
- Next dial 852, the country code for Hong Kong.
- And finally the phone number (8 digits).
But what If your call doesn’t get through?
There are a few rather common dialing mistakes people tend to make, so be sure to check yourself off on the following issues.
International calls can be blocked
Several providers of cell phone service will give you the option to block international calling, and many of them automatically set any phone using their service to a “blocked” status. Don’t try to place your calls to Hong Kong until checking for this.
Cell numbers, area codes, etc.
Don’t add an area code to an international cell number. Further, most cell numbers use a starting digit not employed for calls to landlines.
The number you’re dialing probably won’t start with a zero, but if it does you’ll need to drop it. The zero is called a “trunk code” and is only used when calling within a few countries.
If the number you’re trying to call is 021 XXXX XXXX, then the correct way to dial from the U.S. is 011 + 44 + 21 XXXX XXXX
